A laborshed is defined as the area or region from which an employment center draws its commuting workers.  Priority One conducts a laborshed study every two years.  The report contains information addressing underemployment, the availability and willingness of current and prospective employees to change employment within the workforce, current and desired occupations, wages, hours worked and distance willing to commute to work.

Highlights from the report include:

  • The potential labor force by the laborshed area is approximately 342,770 and from this number 88,500 are willing to change/enter employment.
  • Within the region the largest concentration of workers are employed in the education industry, followed by health care/social services and manufacturing.
  • Those willing to change employment in the region are willing to commute an average of 26 miles one way for employment opportunities.
